USAREC Leaders, Soldiers and Civilians,
Most of you have heard me say or read notes from me or Command Sgt. Maj. Clemmons encouraging you to contact me, CSM Clemmons or USAREC headquarters' staff about ideas or ways to improve USAREC and our ability to accomplish our mission.
Recently, Sgt. 1st Class Shalondia Bland, Anchorage Center Leader, contacted me recommending a change to USAR NPS processing. She suggested we allow for waivers for USAR NPS single parents.
We did some research and decided it was a great idea that we should implement - see ops flash below.
Congratulations Sgt. 1st Class Bland, and thanks for your commitment, leadership and passion for mission accomplishment. Thanks too for having the courage to engage in a professional discussion with me and the USAREC staff.
I'm proud to serve with you.

USAREC success as a whole cannot be accomplished without the Army Reserve mission. Furthermore, AR end-strength is at risk. To provide the strength, USAREC will open NPS Single Parent waivers for AR applicants only.
IAW AR 601-210 (2-10b.(8)) waiver approval will be the Battalion Commander for applicants without a spouse with up to three dependants under age 18.
Those applicants who wish to process for waiver consideration will need to follow the guidelines found in AR 601-210
Ch 4 Para 4-19d.(1)(2)(3).
Reminder that a Family Care Plan (DA Form 5305) is required by AR 600-20 (5-5). The Family Care Plan must be validated and approved by the unit commander of the unit for which the applicant is enlisting. Any attempt to enlist a single parent into a unit other than the unit that has approved the Family Care Plan will be treated as a SI. Furthermore, any enlistment into a unit other than the unit that has approved the Family Care Plan will result in discharge for fraudulent enlistment.
