The Recruiting and Retention School welcomed incoming Command Sgt. Maj. Anthony Stoneburg and honored outgoing Command Sgt. Maj. Tory Hendrieth during a change of responsibility ceremony Nov. 19 at Fort Knox, Ky.
“I am truly humbled to be here today; it’s a great honor,” Stoneburg said. “Those of you who know me know that I love to teach, I love to train, and this is my dream assignment, so I’m very much looking forward the next 24 months of being command sergeant major for this fine institution.”
Stoneburg is a native of Los Alamitos, California. He enlisted into the Army in March 1990 and started his Army career as a counter signal intelligence specialist.
Since then, he has held numerous positions. Most recently, Stoneburg served as the operations sergeant major of the Kansas City Recruiting Battalion and command sergeant major of the Sacramento Recruiting Battalion.
“I’m excited to be here and I’m looking forward to getting to work,” he said.
Col. Terrence Murrill, commandant of the Recruiting and Retention School, called the change of responsibility a very special ceremony and said he has high expectations for Stoneburg.
“CSM Stoneburg, you come highly recommended with an impressive record of leading and taking care of Soldiers and families,” Murrill said. “I am confident RRS will continue to excel with your guidance, action and leadership.”
Hendrieth’s success at the RRS was praised by the commandant.
“The Army defines leadership as influencing people by providing purpose, direction and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improving the organization,” Murrill said. “Well, Mr. Hendrieth, you’ve demonstrated this leadership. You’ve influenced the team, provided purpose, direction, and you’re one of the best motivators.”
Hendrieth, who is retiring, thanked Murrill for the opportunity to assist him in leading “this great organization.”
“It’s an honor for me to have served as the CSM of the Recruiting and Retention School,” Hendrieth said. “It’s also an honor for me to have had the privilege of serving my country for over 29 years.”
