The Recruiting and Retention School welcomed a new leader during a July 29 ceremony at the Patton Museum on Fort Knox. Col. Isaac Johnson replaced Col. Terrence Murrill as commandant of the RRS, which relocated here from Fort Jackson at the end of 2014. Johnson arrives after previously serving as the joint security office director for United States Central Command’s forward headquarters in Qatar. Prior to that, he served as 2nd Recruiting Brigade chief of staff and commander of the Miami Recruiting Battalion.
“Thank you for the opportunity to lead our team’s efforts. I look forward to working with each and every one of you,” Johnson said.
USAREC Commanding General Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Snow presided over the ceremony. “Col. Johnson has a wealth of experience he brings back to USAREC,” Snow said. “I’m very confident the Army has picked the right leader for the right job at the right time.”
Murrill leaves to become commander of the Joint Intelligence Operations Center for U.S. Southern Command in Miami, Florida. Murrill reflected on his time at the RRS, saying, “The Soldiers and civilians of the RRS did not work for me; I worked for them. I took great pride and great pleasure in serving them every day for the last three years.”
Snow highlighted Murrill’s efforts as commandant, “I find it impressive what this school has accomplished.
“In Col. Murrill’s three-year tenure, the school has trained more than 18,000 Soldiers in the art and science of recruiting,” Snow said.
