The Milwaukee Recruiting Battalion and Wisconsin American Legion are now partners, opening the Legion’s doors to recruiters to reach out to youth statewide.
The battalion will support the Legion by helping develop leadership skills, foster personal growth, and enable career success in students through mentoring. Soldiers will also support Legion community events as mission allows and look for opportunities to increase collaboration between the two organizations.
Milwaukee recruiters will be subject matter experts during the Legion’s events, workshops and seminars to speak about Army education, career opportunities, teamwork, advanced skills training, and leadership.
Lt. Col. Daryl Collins, Milwaukee Battalion Commander, recently spoke at a regional conference attended by Wisconsin American Legion commander, Bob Shappell. A discussion between the two men revealed the organizations share similar goals.
“The Army and the American Legion share values and goals that support America’s youth,” Collins said. “The Army is committed to providing our youth a pathway to success; to developing leadership skills, furthering the education of tomorrow’s leaders, and fostering a commitment to a lifetime of service.”
Collins Shappell and Maj. Gen. (Retired) Paul Lima, the Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for the state of Wisconsin signed the agreement June 15, at the Cedarburg, Wisconsin American Legion Post 288.
