More than 130 Army and Junior ROTC cadets, Future Soldiers and high school students participated in the first Army Branch Day at Fordham University Feb. 7.
The event educates cadets and prospects about the different Army branches, equipping senior cadets with the knowledge to decide which branch they’d like to pursue. Assignments are given based on the cadets’ college GPA, summer training, and needs of the Army.
New York City Recruiting Battalion partnered with Fordham University and various Army installations to coordinate the event.
"Our aim was to educate the cadets and the Future Soldiers about the
various opportunities available to them within the Army Reserve," said Bronx Company Recruiter Sgt. 1st Class Sheldon Gayle. "By doing so, our recruiters are better able to provide our local Army Reserve units with quality officers like those graduating from Fordham University's ROTC."
Cadets were also given a chance for one-on-one time with the presenters to learn more about the branches.
“We learned about the 16 different branches directly from officers and Soldiers who have real time experience in those fields,” said Lyle Regalado of Fordham Army ROTC. “This event was extremely helpful. I would highly suggest that it happens again for future cadets.”
Capt. Philip Greene is a future operations officer with the Air Assault Helicopter Battalion, Fort Drum, New York.
“Participating in Branch Day was a great opportunity for me to share my experiences with the cadets to give them a real assessment of what I do as an Army Aviation officer,” he said.
