The Greeneville,Ind.,Army Career Center put on a community wide event, a food drive, that encompassed every pillar in the local area in March and April.
Four of our local high schools competed in the Greene County-Army Strong Food Drive to collect the most non perishable food donations for the Greeneville Food Bank.
Throughout the competition students at Greeneville High School went above and beyond and landed in first place.
More than 7,860 pounds of food and cans were collected and delivered to the food bank by light-medium tactical vehicle with support from our local reserve TPU and with a police escort from the Greeneville Police Dept.
Incentives for the drive were:
--- The principal of the winning school will throw out the first pitch at the Greeneville Astros game on 20 June 2014
--- The mayor will present a certificate of recognition to the winning school
--- Several local businesses donated certificates and prizes to be raffled off at a school assembly.
I am still relatively new to recruiting and Greeneville, TN and when I first moved here this community welcomed me in with open arms not only as Soldier, but as a neighbor, and a friend. I organized this event to be more active in my local area and give back to those who have supported me these past few months. It was also a good opportunity to allow the students that I work with see how good it feels to help others and be a part of something bigger than themselves. With the school support behind me we were able to raise more food than I ever thought possible. A lot of families in the Greene County area will sleep easier tonight knowing their pantries are full!
